Neonatal care in Kent and Medway
There are five neonatal units in Kent and Medway of these; two are neonatal intensive care units (NICU) –The Oliver Fisher neonatal unit at Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham and the neonatal unit at William Harvey in Ashford. There is one local neonatal unit (LNU) at Tunbridge Wells Hospital near Pembury, and two special care units (SCU) Walnut ward located at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford and Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother neonatal unit in Margate.
These five neonatal units are part of the wider thirteen neonatal units in Kent, Surrey and Sussex operational delivery network (KSS ODN).
There is also a dedicated neonatal transport team who provide a specialist neonatal transfer service for babies across the Kent, Surrey and Sussex area, this is known as KSS NTS.
